Green Flag Breakdown Cover
Relatively speaking Green flag is the new kid on the block, it was formed in 1971 but operated under a different name (National Breakdown Recovery Club). It operated under this name until 1994 when it was renamed and branded to be what it is today. Green flag is the third largest breakdown cover provider in the UK. They also received a Defaqto 5 Star Rating.
A Little Background
Green Flag has around 5 million members which isn't as many members as The AA or RAC and its not been around as long as GEM Motoring assist. It does however approach breakdown recovery differently. Firstly the cost is not at a set amount for each level of cover. You have to give your personal details and your car details they assess the risk and you will get a quote based on that. So if you are in a low risk category it may work out quite cheap. Whereas if you are considered higher risk, such as driving a lot miles and having an older car you will pay more. Secondly they do not have dedicated uniform patrols, though through their strong branding you may think differently. Green flag instead use a network of local mechanics. They say this brings with it two benefits you have mechanics with local knowledge and you save on cost as they do not have to buy dedicated branded vehicles and they pass their savings onto you by offering cheaper cover. One thing to note that is also different from the AA and RAC is that Green Flag have a restriction to the age of a car for personal cover. You will not receive assistance if the vehicle you are in is over 16 years old. There is no age restriction for vehicles with personal cover from The AA or RAC. They
