Winter is upon us
Winter is officially upon us with, cold weather hit the United Kingdom . Snow has settled in the north and eastern regions. 15 cm of snow has fallen in Pittington. The AA urges drivers to prepare themselves towards the dangers of driving in winter conditions. Remember to take your time whilst driving and that stopping distances are up to 10 times as long in icy conditions
The dangers are not just restricted to journeys on the roads, the RAC state that motorist are 50% more likely to become stranded on the driveway during the winter months. The 4th of January 2010 was the busiest day for the RAC with 15,000 breakdowns - one of the busiest reported days in the company,s 113 year history. The AA report that on the 25th of November breakdown calls are currently coming in at a rate of 1,400 every hour.
The AA and RAC both state that the most common cause of breakdown in winter is a flat battery.
With breakdowns at home being very common for the winter months the RAC are offering free home start for new members during the winter months.
